The image depicts a scene from the east end of Long Island, probably the North Sea area, where Cikovsky maintained a studio and home during the 1940's. He was a major participant in the Hampton Bays Art Group, along with David Burliuk, the Soyer brothers, Raphael, Moses, and Isaac, George Constant, and others.
