Asa Cheffetz Asa Cheffetz was born in Buffalo, New York, but lived most of his life in Springfield, Massachusetts, where he maintained his studio. He studied at the Museum of Fine Art School and the National Academy of Design. One of his many achievements was designing the official bookplate for the Library of Congress. His engravings are noted for their tonal value, detail, and style, endearing him to his peers and critics as a "master wood engraver."
Cheffetz is famous for his engravings depicting the New England landscape and has exhibited his works at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Chicago Art Institute, the Royal Academy in London, Boston Public Library, the Springfield Museum of Fine Arts, and many other institutions.
