Erich ButtnerErich Buttner was a German painter, graphic artist, and illustrator. He studied art with Emil Ortik at the Berlin University of Arts, and became a member of the Berlin Secession during the years, 1906-1911. Buttner contributed 21 lithographs to Kriegszeit Kunstlerflugblatter, a German periodical, which documented Germany during World War I. The periodical contained 265 lithographs from various German Expressionist artists and was in existence from 1914-1916.

Lithograph, 1917, edition limited but unknown. Signed on the stone, lower right; signed and dated in pencil. Printed on antique laid paper with a watermark of an oval with decoration, surmounted by a crown. In good condition other than some wrinkling in the lower portions of the top and bottom margin.
Buttner was a German Expressionist and member of the Berlin Secession Group. He designed the bookplate for Albert Einstein in Berlin around 1917.
