Lawrence Beall SmithBorn in Washington D.C. in 1909, Smith, graduated from the University of Chicago and received his art training at night at the
Chicago Art Institute. During World War II he was an accredited artist covering the Normandy Invasion, Army Medical Activities,
and work aboard a United States Aircraft Carrier. Smith was also an illustrator and many of his lithographs portray children at
play and in a pensive mood. His work is in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum, Harvard University, University of
Minnesota, Abbott Laboratories, and the Department of the United States Navy.
