Warrington ColescottWashington Colescott was born in Oakland, California to Creole parents from Louisiana. He received a bachelor's and master's degree in art at the University of California. His interest in etching began in the 1950's; studying the process at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. After being audited by the I.R.S. he created a series of satirical etchings on the event. Colescott was a member of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he taught painting and printmaking for a period of 37 years. He has had many exhibits throughout the United States and abroad, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
